Synthetic backup after a Cumulative incremental backup?

Hello,

I am using BackupExec 2014 running on a windows 2012 server. I want to create a synthetic backup after a full backup and a culmulative incremental backup.  (Full Backup-> Cumulative Incremental Backup -> Synthetic Backup) But I am unable to do so. The only way I seem to be able to do a synthetic backup is after one full backup and one differential incremental backup (Full Backup ->Differential Incremental Backup ->Synthetic Backup). Is this the only way to go about doing it?  The option seems to be very rigid. 

What if I want to do a full backup and 2 differential incremental backups before I do a synthetic backup? I cannot seem to customize the process to my needs. 

Please let me know. I am a new user and am unable to find a solution to this problem anywhere online.

Backup Exec 2010 R2 Freezes trying to access remote server

Backup Exec 2010 R2

Server 2008 Standard, all BE updates are current, including remote agents

Remote Agents on several servers.

I have one server that suddenly cannot be backed up. This server is called RDSERV1. 

In the modify backup job screen, I click on RDSERV1 and the program becomes unresponsive and freezes every time.

Other servers are accessed no problem.

What I have done:

  1. Reinstalled remote agent on RDSERV1
  2. Made sure everything was up to date using Live Update, including all the remote agents.
  3. Rebooted server with BE on it as well as RDSERV1.

Still happening. I have some data on that server I would like backed up. Any suggestions?

Making a Backup Exec 2014 a managed media server

When I run the install program on this server and try to choose the option to make it a "managed media server", the option is greyed out.   I didn't have this problem on several other standalone servers that were migrated to managed media servers.

BE installation issue

good morning

Due to an HD issue, I have to reinstall BE 12.5

the installation runs properly until the SQL installation

the autorun.inf could not be extract, we can not add .this file anymore to our servers

I have tried to install first the SQLServer2005_BC (install without any issue) and than re-run the installation of BE

still the same issue

I have downloaded the trial version 2014, same issue

I have run with a local admin

I have run with a domain admin

without success

any idea how I can managed this ?

Schedule Export Expired Media in Backup Exec 2014

Hi,

i'm writing because of my recent problems with configuring with scheduling exporting expired media tapes after upgrade to Backup Exec 2014.

Everything was fine while on BE2012.

According to this KB Article, there should be option in "Storage operations" tab:

But, as can be seen in attachment, i don't see that option.

What could be the possible reason for such behavior? 

We are running Backup Exec 2014 with latest update for now on Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Standard.

Backup Exec Agent for Application and Database license

Hi, my customer's backup server is BE2014 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Std. They want to add one more client to the backups which is a Windows server (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Std) with Microsoft SQL databases. My question is:

If we need to back up both the MS SQL database and the file system (C drive, D drive, etc.) of this addtional client, does the customer need to purchase 1 x Agent for Application and Database license only or 1 x Agent for Application and Database license + 1 x Agent for Windows license?

I have an rman backup running using backup exec 2014. At the level of the servers, we have 4 available channels. How can i encrease the usage from the backup ex side to use the four channels and not one?

BE2014SP2 Small Business Edition Agent License Problem

We've installed a Small Business Server 2011 in a virtual Machine (Microsoft Hyper-V engine running with Windows Server 2012 R2). Physical Machine with an installed Backup Exec 2014 SP2 refuses to recognize the Small Business Server. Therefore the license for the Small Business Edition Agent expires after 60 days.

BE License file is recognized as Small Business Edition 2014.

Is there a applicable Solution? The installation of the Backup Exec program on the Hyper-V server is necessary, because of the LTO4 tape drive (SAS).

Hallo,

mich würde es interessieren warum es bei Symantec noch immer nicht die Möglichkeit gibt, virtuelle Maschinen aus dem Backup anzustarten um sie in sekundenschnelle wiederherzustellen wie es schon bei vielen anderen Anbietern funktioniert. Bei Lösungen von EMC oder Veeam ist das längstens möglich die VM´s anzustarten und auf den Produktions Storage zu migrieren. Mich würde es interessieren ob Symantec auch an diesem Thema arbeitet.

Es kann ja nicht sein, das die Wiederherstellung stunden dauert, bei der Konkurenz nur Sekunden?

Can you advise if there is a hot fix solution to let the backup exec 2010 to discover SQL instances 2014

as per this link http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-exec-2010-sbs-sql-server-2014, it shows that there is not compatibility between BE2010 and SQL 2014

 Could you help me if there is any hot fix for that

GRT Backup einer VM mit SQL in Hyper V Cluster

Hallo,

ich habe einen Backup-Job, in dem ich eine VM innerhalb eines Hyper-V-Cluster mit GRT sichere. Innerhalb der VM läuft ein MS-SQL2008. Das Backup läuft durch, jedoch mit der Ausnahme, dass eine GRT-Sicherung nicht möglich war. Fehler V-79-57344-38727.

Ich habe die nötigen Lizenzen für Application und Databases installiert. Die Anwendungen erstrecken sich nicht über weitere VMs. Die SQL-Dienste sind gestartet.

Dennoch bekomme ich immer wieder die Ausnahmemeldung angezeigt.

Für eine weiterführende Idee würde ich mich freuen.

Hi,

We need help or advise with the following.
Whe are looking for a new backup software solution

We have a trail version running Backup Exec 2014 on windows 2012 R2

We need:
Data 2 disk duplicate 2 tape

We have:
 full flash SAN 10Gb controllers
10gb switches
2 New ESX hots
1 fyscal back-up server with SSD mirror and nearline SAS 7.2K  raid 10 for our  18,2 TB disk storage
with 2x 10 GB controllers in a team.

Symantec is to slow and we do not know why.
Full backup to disk 13 hours 3,6 TB, Verify in a sepperate job 4 hours , Duplicate 8 hours (Tape unit TL2000 with utlrium 6 with SAS controller)

When i run a test job to disk with only virtual servers selected, connected to our pSphere server . It wil backup de vmdk files  3,2 TB in 6 hours.
job rate 160,5 MB/s

Veeam wil do the same in 3 hours and 45 minuts.rate max 384,1 MB/s processing rate 241 MB/s

What is wrong with Symantec config?

Hi dear BE forum,

I have some old backups jobs that were running on a specific device. I'd like to get rid of everything regarding the jobs: BE data, actual B2D files, the BE device...

I am not sure on how to do this properly, coul you guide me ?

My understanding is the following:

-remove the jobs

-in the device list move to the unused device, select all Media in it and move to 'Retired Media' set

-Still in the Device view, select all Media in the old device and delete

-right click on the Device and delete

Can´t backup off line databases

I have a BE2014 SP2 installed on Windows 2012 R2 Standart and set backup job to my dabases on SQL Server 2012. However, I can´t backup some databases and the job log is this

This databases are our DRP site, and it´s necessary set standby state. Have any ideas, folks?

Renaming Tape Drive

Hi,

after a fresh install of Backup Exec 2014 SP2 installed on Windows Server 2012 R2 I try to rename the tape drive. When I click on "Apply" I get the error:

An error has ocurred because the server has received incorrect or invalid data.

The server has received incorrect or invalid data.

entity.Name: The parameter value entity.Name is invalid.

(see attached screenshot)

Nevertheless, the tape drive seems to be renamed, because the new name is displayed. Can I just ignore the error?

Deduplication Option for BE2014 - 64 TB Limit?

From it I'm infering that there's a 64 TB limit on the deduplication folder in BE2014. Can someone confirm this?

Is there any word on what the limit might be in BE2015 (aka BE15)?

BE 12.5 - System State job perpetually queued

I have a BackupExec 12.5 (rev 2213) install on a customer's site, and we have a System State job that, after starting, never leaves the Queued state, even after several hundred hours. The job never appears to move any data - it just sits there.
