Hello,
I have run into a problem with my BEX 2012 (W2008 server) B to D to T setup. I have a backup configured with Full backup Every 1 week on Saturday night to and External Drive (keep for 1 week). Next stage is Incrementals Every 1 week on Mon - Fri nights (keep fro 5 days) to the same ExDrive. Next stage is Duplicate to Tape on Last Sunday of every 1 month (backsup most recent full backup).
Under storage settings, Media overwrite protection level is "Partial-protect only allocated media/prompt before overwriting imported media", and Media overwirte options "overwrite scratch media before recyclabe..."
The scenario is that the last week's Saturday night Full backup was still running when I arrived on Monday, and the Sunday night Full Duplicate to Tape was waiting for the Full to finish. I canceled the Duplicate but the Saturday Full backup was hung so I canceled that. BTW..while investigating, I noticed that I had put incrementals on hold the week before (another story) and forgot to release the hold, so I made that change. I tried manually re-running the Full backup and it fails where now the incremental job is listed as supercedded and was not running. The Duplicate also fails. Now the External Disk is nearly full.
I waited until this last Saturday hoping that the Full backup would run and reclaim space on the ExDrive as usual, but it didn't so I canceled the job. The error is "Backup - \\ServerName\D: Media mount failed. User canceled a Physical Volume Library Operation. V-79-57344-33861 - The media operation was terminated by the user. Interesting thing is that D: is the dirve to be backed up and instead of the error showing something about the ExDrive E:
Firsly, I believe I need to free up space on the ExDrive but I am not sure how to safely find and delete the oldest backups so can use some help here to start.
Tnx...
